New Zealand White Wine

Mention New Zealand White Wine to most people, and they will immediately think of the country’s most famous vinous export – Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The wine that went from a standing start to become one of the world’s most popular wine styles remains hugely popular today, though the wealth of zesty, zippy, gooseberry-lemongrass-and-passionfruit renderings have been joined by more varied bottlings lent added interest via oak ageing or wild yeasts. Just as noteworthy, however, is the increasing quality and subtlety of the country’s Chardonnay, both from the likes of Dog Point and Greywacke in Marlborough, and on the North Island, via the fabulously layered wines of Kumeu River.
