Syrah
Originating in the Northern Rhône, it is on these steep slopes that Syrah produces its finest wines in the famous names of Côte Rôtie, Hermitage and Cornas. With age the Syrahs of the Northern Rhône develop an earthy, meaty character, with complexity to rival the world’s most sought after wines. Syrah is also known as Shiraz, particularly in Australia, and when produced in warmer climes the grape can be a completely different, fruitier beast. The name that’s used should be a clue to the style.
