Douro Vintages
Vintage Port is one of the wine world’s great indulgences. A Port made from a single year that has been carefully aged prior to release, it is only produced when a house deems the season to be of sufficient quality. Producers hold back the wine to age in their cellars for several years or decades before doing so, and don’t always ‘declare’ a vintage in the same years as each other. Of the most universally declared vintages, 1977 is something of a legendary year, and widely acclaimed. More recently renowned vintages since the turn of the century include 2000, 2003, 2007, 2011 and the rare back-to-back pair of 2016 (fresh, restrained and poised, like 2007) and 2017 (full, rich and powerful, like 2003).
