Chianti Wine

Chianti stands as one of Tuscany’s signature wine regions, its savoury, refreshing, red-fruited wines known far and wide for their supreme adaptability for food-matching. Made largely (but not necessarily wholly) from the Sangiovese grape variety, the best wines have a wonderful balance of crunchy, cherry-tinged fruit and mouthwatering acidity. Such wines tend to come from the more tightly regulated Chianti Classico DOCG, which covers vineyards at a higher altitude than other parts of Chianti, allows for 20% of other red grapes (but no longer white grapes) to be incorporated into the blend, and is further demarcated into individual sites and communes, and/or labelled as a producer’s ‘Gran Selezione’ wine.
