English Sparkling Wine
Not so very long ago, when it came to sparkling wine, there wasn’t much by way of choice outside of its heartland of Champagne. But in an astonishingly short space of time, English fizz has gone from being a curiosity to being a serious contender on the world stage. English Sparkling Wine is made in the same, ‘traditional’ method as Champagne, with the all-important secondary fermentation happening in bottle, and most producers also employ the same three grape varieties – Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Meunier. And with similarities in both soils and climate – the latter becoming more benevolent all the time – the tools are in place for continued progress, not least as a new generation of producers continue to gain more experience and know-how.
