Spirits
Spirits have been distilled rather than fermented, unlike wine, beer or cider. Officially a spirit can have received no added sugar: if flavourings or sugar are added then it becomes a liqueur. Spirits can be distilled from any fruit or vegetable with a starch content: common examples include Brandy, distilled from wine, Tequila from the blue agave, Whisky from fermented grain mash, and Vodka, traditionally from grains or potatoes.
