Château Belair-Monange

Château Belair-Monange sits on the same famed limestone plateau as near neighbour Château Ausone and, with the powerful backing of J.P. Moueix behind it, is one of the emerging stars of St-Emilion. Until 2012, it was known simply as Château Belair, until its amalgamation with next door Château Magdelaine and the name Monange was added - the maiden name of J.P Mouiex’s mother. Wine has been grown here since Roman times, and the estate was formed in the Middle Ages by an Englishman. By the 19th century, its wines were held in high regard. With the addition of Magdelaine, its size was increased to 23.5 hectares and ranked as 1er Grand Cru Classé.Merlot and Cabernet Franc are grown across the plateau and onto the sandy soils beneath imparting balance and richness. J.P. Mouiex’s belief in the quality of the estate has led to significant investment in the underground cellars and in the vineyards, culminating in a wine which many believe outperforms its more expensive neighbours.
