Tuscan White Wine

From Brunello to Bolgheri, Chianti to Montepulciano, there is no doubt that Tuscany’s reputation as one of the world’s great fine wine regions has been moulded around its red wines. But the presence of so many world-class producers – and the reliable climate – mean that there are a smattering of fine Tuscan white wines, if you know where to look. Leading producers such as Antinori, Tenuta dell’Ornellaia and Isole e Olena all make notable bottlings, be that from local grapes such as Vermentino and Verdicchio or international varieties such as Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. And then, of course, there are the lusciously sweet Vin Santos, made from grapes that are dried in open lofts to concentrate the sugars for the ultimate dessert wine.
