Italian Nero d’Avola
While Nero d’Avola is grown across all parts of southern Italy, it is native to – and most renowned in – Sicily. Named after the Sicilian town of Avola, the grape variety is known for its bold, dark-fruited flavours, which tend to yield fairly structured, full-bodied wines. In line with the increased quality and popularity of Sicilian wine in general, so Nero d’Avola has gained in prominence in recent years, delivering ripe, plush bottlings that work particularly well with hearty dishes.
