Côtes de Provence

While the Côtes de Provence is often referenced as a defining factor on Provençal wines – rosé, in particular – the region is so vast and disparate in terms of its soils and microclimates, that it is hard to say that the appellation indicates a particular style. Covering the eastern end of Provence, the appellation includes red and white wines, as well as the famous rosé, and even incorporates a classification, introduced in 1955, exactly a century after its more famous Bordeaux counterpart. The most common grape varieties here are Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre and Cinsault.
