English Bacchus Wine
While much of the buzz around the English wine scene has focused on its fizz, the country’s still wines are also coming on strong. And among the most popular styles is Bacchus – touted as England’s answer to New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. A grape variety that thrives in cooler climates, it is markedly zesty and zippy, with a pronounced line of acidity and tangy notes of citrus fruit. Some producers – notably Flint Vineyard, in Norfolk, are now experimenting with oak-aged Bacchus, lending a more rounded element to such flavours.
