Pinot Blanc
Something of a ‘workhorse’ grape, Pinot Blanc first emerged as a white mutation of Pinot Gris in the 19th Century on the hillsides of Burgundy. Such are its visual similarities to Chardonnay, for many years no distinction was made. However, whilst it can offer wines of attractive perfume and roundness, Pinot Blanc will struggle to ever be the life and soul of the party. It remains grown in reasonable amounts in Alsace, where it can create some pleasing, terroir-defined wines.
