Muscat
There are many closely-related varieties known as Muscat, with Muscat Ottonel, Muscat of Alexandria and Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains the most commonly found. The latter was possibly the very first variety cultivated for the purpose of making wine. A curiosity of Muscats is that the wines made themselves often actually smell of grapes. Most Muscats are used to create sweet wines, whether fortified, such as Muscat de Beaumes de Venise, or fizzy, such as Moscato d’Asti.
