Marsanne
A grape variety whose origins lie squarely in the Northern Rhône, Marsanne is often blended with its close relative Roussanne. Due to the latter’s difficult nature, Marsanne has seen its use grow in appellations including St Péray, St Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage. Famously, Marsanne is the key component of White Hermitage, one of the world’s longest-lived and complex white wines, and such is its resonance with this legendary appellation that in Switzerland the grape itself is known as Ermitage.
