Bottle Size – Bigger
Larger bottles make an undoubted statement when serving fine wine – and while the magnum (1.5 litres) is the most common example, several wines are bottled in larger sizes still, further drawing the eye. From double magnum to jeroboam, impériale and even such collector’s items as a balthazar and nebuchadnezzar, there is good reason to recommend such formats beyond mere aesthetics. Wine aged in larger bottles will evolve more slowly, and at a more even pace, thereby allowing its full complexity and nuance to emerge over time. Top-end Bordeaux, Burgundy and other fine wines can all be found in such sizes.
