2018 Barolo Massara, Castello di Verduno, Piedmont
This flies under the radar compared to Monvigliero, and it feels a little closer in style to La Morra, but there’s fine-boned tannins and a lovely sense of savouriness on the finish. Very well balanced.

Verduno. Just mid ruby. quite a gorgeous earthy minerally raspberry nose with dark-spice touches. An elegant raspberry and cherry palate with a thick layer of sandy tannins. Not enormously concentrated but with captivating elegance. (WS)

The 2018 Barolo Massara is impressive. Deep and yet weightless, the Massara captures much of the best this tricky vintage has to offer. Wild cherry, rose petal, mint, dried herbs, orange peel and exotic spice notes abound. This layered Verduno Barolo is superb and also distinctive.
