2023 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, Marchand-Tawse (Vignes de la Famille Tawse)
This is Grand Cru in every sense: its perfume is intoxicating with graceful and persistent energy. It sits at the high point of the Tawse cellar, a culmination of the seriously good winemaking going on here, and a reason why the domaine is singled out year-after-year for critical acclaim. Where the Tawse Mazoyères is broad and dense, this is long and fine, with a vibrant energy. The domaine owns three parcels in this wonderful Gevrey-Chambertin Grand Cru, including one where the vines are well over 75 years old. It is hard to overstate the quality on display here, especially in 2023 with its spicy red fruit aromatics, fragrant finesse, and intricate tannins. Wow.

The 2023 Mazis-Chambertin Grand Cru, which includes 12% whole bunch, has a very finely poised bouquet that's floral, cohesive and complex in style. The palate is medium-bodied and fleshier than the Mazoyères, with supple tannins and crushed stone notes permeating the red fruit tones. It's not powerful but full of finesse. This is excellent.
