2023 Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Altitude, Domaine Boris Champy

This comes from a blend of the domaine’s young vines with a small dash of extremely old vines, from multiple parcels scattered around the village of Nantoux. It has a crunchy acidity giving it a fresh profile, which is twinned with the rose petal and ripe raspberry character. Whole-bunch has been upped to 60% in 2023 giving it a spiced, graceful length on the finish.

88-90/100 – Neal Martin, vinous.com

The 2023 Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Beaune Altitude is Champy's multi-vineyard cuvée. This year, it includes more fruit from Bignon, mainly from the higher-yielding vines. This has an open and expressive bouquet with dark cherry, mulberry, damp loam and light Japanese wakame scents. The palate is medium-bodied with a grainy texture, the 50% whole bunch shaping the second half with peppery notes that are very vocal on the finish—perhaps just a little too much at the moment? Give this time to meld together.
