2022 Nuits-St-Georges, Haut Pruliers, Domaine Bertrand et Axelle Machard de Gramont

Fragile, low-yielding old vines planted in 1964 (by Axelle’s grandparents) produce a wine of surprising structure from this site. The concentration of fruit, the frame of tannins, and the long drive on the back-palate are perhaps more in line with the traditional image of Nuits-St-Georges than Axelle’s Vallerots cuvées. This quintessential Nuits cuvée has superb length, with some welcome Nuits-St-Georges structure giving it power and presence.

The 2022 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Hauts Pruliers, from vines planted in 1965, has a lifted bouquet of blueberry and wild strawberry, with dried violet touches coming through with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with black cherries and hints of licorice, fanning out wonderfully on the finish with plenty of sucrosity. This is well worth seeking out.
