Critic Scores

93/100 – Jane Anson, janeanson.com

Deeply coloured, fleshy damson, high extraction, edges of aniseed and fennel, black pepper. This is good quality with texture and tannins that hold things in place, adding relief and interest, definitely one of the ones to look out for in Haut-Medoc. Five generations of women owners, and now also with Basile Tesseron, ex-Lafon Rochet.

87-88/100 – William Kelley, Wine Advocate , Issue #266

The 2022 Larrivaux offers up attractive aromas of violets and dark berries, followed by a medium to full-bodied, rich but rather extracted palate. Attractively balanced but for an excess of tannin, a lighter touch here might well have paid dividends.

89-90/100 – James Suckling, jamessuckling.com

Pretty, juicy fruit with blackberries and currants, with some chocolate undertones. Medium body. Fresh finish. A little fluid in the center palate, but nicely done.

The 2002 Larrivaux is gorgeous. Bright and beautifully textured, Larrivaux possesses notable density. In some years, Larrivaux has been a bit light, but the 2022 offers a touch more textural depth, likely the result of low yields (frost and hail lowered production) and the warmth of the year. It will be interesting to see if there is greater ambition at play as well, but that is harder to asses from a single wine. In any event, Larrivaux is superb in 2022.
