2009 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, Margaux bottle shot.

2009 Pavillon Rouge du Château Margaux, Margaux

The best Pavillon Rouge ever made, according to Paul Pontallier. The Merlot was used in the Pavillon that was not utilised in the Grand Vin, so the assemblage is 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 29% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The colour is as deep as the Château Margaux and the nose is similar, but more low key. This has lovely texture on the palate, creamy but focused and with real intensity. There is structure here, but it is overwhelmed by the fruit. The tannins are so finely formed that they are woven into the wine. With great purity and fresh acidity, this should develop into something really special. Absolutely outstanding for a second wine.
