En Primeur
2005 Château Mouton-Rothschild, 1er Cru Pauillac
85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 14% Merlot and a touch of Cabernet Franc. Dense and opaque in the glass, the aromas here offer pure blackcurrant, berry and toasted oak. Opulent, layered and expansive on the palate as one has come to expect of Mouton. There is ample concentration of fruit and a suggestion of fine ripeness. The tannins are assertive, lending plenty of backbone to this bold example. For all its evident ripeness, the fruit remains cool and poised, very well-expressed, there is a lovely note of purity and a long lingering finish, very much in keeping with classic profile of Mouton-Rothschild.
