2005 Château Latour, 1er Cru Pauillac
Cabernet reigns supreme here, accounting for 75% of the blend, with 20% Merlot in support and the remaining 5% constituted by Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The elegance and sense of balance on the palate is instantly impressive. This is a very refined Latour, the power that one so often associates is present, but the balance is near on impeccable and so it seems less overt in its intensity and richness. A firm underlying mineral quality is present, but veiled by flowing, fleshy fruit with notes of creamy cassis, cedar, mocha and bitter chocolate. A classic Latour in the making.
