Thibaud & Michel Chevré

Michel Chevré started the tiny, three hectare property of Clos de l’Ecotard in the Loire Valley in 2011. It is based in the small village of Courchamps which lies to the south of the appellation of Saumur, where the soils are limestone rich and perfectly suited to Loire staples, Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Franc. Prior to heading his domaine, he worked with Thierry Germain at Domaines des Roches Neuves and this dedication to quality has continued into his own venture. He has been joined by his son, Thibaud and together they are crafting brilliantly expressive white and red wines. With a belief that quality starts in the vineyard, no effort is spared here. His vines are farmed organically and managed biodynamically - although they’re not certified - he ploughs by horse, grows grasses among his vines, controls yields and harvests everything by hand - a rarity in the Loire. The result is a range of aromatic, mineral Chenin Blancs and vibrant Cabernet Francs.
