Domaine du Closel

The family-owned Domaine du Closel delicious white wines are made from Chenin Blanc grown in the Loire Valley appellation of Savennières. It was run by Evelyne de Pontbriand, one of the wine world’s most charming characters, until November 2024, when Evelyne sadly passed. Having initially trained as a teacher, she took control of the family domaine following her mother’s retirement in the early 2000s and her Loire wines went from strength to strength. Her mother was president of the appellation, a role that Evelyne herself also took on. Marrying viticultural tradition with dynamic modern practices, her wines gained her a firm following, one that continues under the helm of winemaker Antoine Fardeau. The estate continues to be managed biodynamically, benefitting from the legacy of Evelyne’s extensive soil studies. These are classic, benchmark Savennières; wines that demonstrate enormous charm and commitment to quality.
