Young winemakers Valerie and Daniel Alibrand started Domaine de L’Alliance in 2005 when they bought a small parcel of 8 hectares of vines superbly located next to Château de Fargues. Daniel was a deep sea fisherman but when the chance came up to take over Valerie’s family vines, he took it and their wines have garnered increasing popularity. Their old vines are worked organically, with low yields (akin to those at d’Yquem) and plenty of experimentation with one-off cuvées regularly produced. His Sauternes offers incredible value and impeccable winemaking skills. He creates both beautifully balanced sweet Sauternes and a dry white which, made with equal parts barrel-aged Sauvignon and Sémillon, rivals top Burgundies for its rich complexity.
