Château Pavie-Macquin

Château Pavie-Macquin first came to prominence with the arrival of Albert Macquin in 1887. His purchase of several parcels of vines created the estate and a wine of critical acclaim. His own claim to fame was the pioneering use of grafted rootstocks to counter the phylloxera epidemic, a method which today is normal practice. Pavie-Macquin’s 15 hectares are planted across the hill of Pavie, bordering Troplong Mondot and Château Pavie, and are predominantly Merlot and Cabernet Franc and a small amount of old vine Cabernet Sauvignon which is used in the Grand Vin. The estate’s potential began to take shape with the arrival of Stéphane Derenoncourt and Nicolas Thienpont in the 1990s. Since then, the wines of Pavie-Macquin have gone from strength to strength. It achieved 1er Grand Cru Classé (B) in the 2006 St-Emilion classifications, demonstrating the quality top terroir and superior winemaking can achieve.
