Château Malartic-Lagravière

Malartic-Lagravière is responsible for both red and white wines in Pessac-Léognan, both of which have deservedly excellent reputations. Although it is perhaps best known for the quality of its whites, of the estate’s 47 hectares, only 7 are dedicated to white grape varieties. The vineyards date back to the 18th century and the estate saw many changes of hands over the years, most notably when it was bought by champagne house Laurent Perrier in 1990. Its reputation was secured by 1959 when it was one of only six properties to enter the Graves classification for both red and white wines, however its quality renaissance properly began in 1997 when it was bought from Laurent Perrier by Michèle and Alfred-Alexandre Bonnie, Belgian business owners who set about restoring the estate. Today, their son and daughter-in-law Jean-Jacques and Severine have assumed control. The winemaking is overseen by Philippe Garcia, who trained at Haut-Brion, and makes the most of Malartic-Lagravière’s superb gravel and limestone soils and is helping to take this family-run estate from strength to strength.
