Château Le Boscq

Château Le Boscq can fly under the radar when pitted against some of St-Estèphe’s much grander names. Lying on a deep gravel bank, with clay subsoils and overlooking the Gironde Estuary, its terroir rivals its near neighbour Calon-Ségur, but at a fraction of the price. Its history dates back to Thomas Barton, founder of the Barton dynasty, and his descendants built the fine château in the late 1800s. Whilst it achieved Cru Bourgeois status in 1932, a period of neglect saw it fall from the limelight during the 20th century. However, in 1995 it was acquired by Vignobles Dourthe, owners of classed growth Belgrave in the Médoc. Their belief in its potential has resulted in significant investment in the vineyards and winery to restore Le Boscq to its former glory. Talented winemaker, Joachim Gilbert, is at the helm and his careful management is taking the property from strength to strength.
