Château Beauséjour (Duffau-Lagarrosse)

The well-situated 6.8 hectares of Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse lies between Châteaux Canon and Angélus. Sitting on a limestone rock face, the vines are farmed more or less organically (although not certified) and are planted with predominantly Merlot and some Cabernet Franc. It was once part of a much larger estate, known simply as Beauséjour, but was split, slightly unequally, between the two children of Pierre-Paulin Ducarpe. His son, Léopold Ducarpe took the smaller portion which became Beau-Séjour Bécot. His daughter, who had married into the Duffau-Lagarrosse family, took the larger portion along with the château and its buildings, forming Beauséjour Duffau-Lagarrosse. It has remained in the family now for eight generations. Wine critic Robert Parker helped bring the estate to prominence in 1990 when he awarded it a perfect 100-point score (and again in 2009 and 2010). In 2009, the quality again soared with the introduction of advisors Nicolas Thienpont, David Suire and Stéphane Derenoncourt.
